So much is made in China and brushes are no exception. Whilst other countries such as Japan and South Korea produce brushes, the largest producer is still China. Why?

China has several advantages for brush making. They have a lot of people with the skills and knowledge to be able to make brushes. They have now had a long history in excelling in this field and this has led to many people that know and understand the art-form of brush manufacturing. Brush making is still a very hands-on, labour intensive process. Chinese factories can source enough workers with the correct skills, to be able to set up production lines.

Another reason China makes so many brushes, is due to the abundance of industries that support brush making. Even if your brushes are made outside of China, often the materials used in the production come from Chinese manufacturers. For example, a brush manufacturer requires metal factories to make the ferrules, wood factories to make wooden handles, farms that produce natural hair and plastics factories that specialize in the synthetic material for the brush heads themselves as well as for plastic handles. There are also a host of packaging related industries that are required too, that produce polybags, clamshell packaging and pouch factories who make the brush roles and brush pouches that are often sold with brushes. Of course, the packaging industry has suppliers and support industries for them as well.

In essence, the reason to produce brushes in China is because they offer a one stop solution to make a complete, shelf ready product in quantities that aren’t excessive for you. They do this in a reasonable amount of time, provide good quality items and the costs they charge are commercially viable.
